The five Republicans vying for the chance to take on incumbent Democrat Rep. Chris Pappas in November will meet onstage Thursday night in the first debate of the GOP NH-01 primary, presented by New Hampshire Journal.

The candidate forum will be held at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics auditorium on Thursday, August 4 at 6:00 p.m. It is not open to the general public, but will be broadcast live on Manchester Public TV channel 16 and will stream online as well.

The format will follow the successful GOP primaries hosted by NHJournal this summer.

The debate will feature conversations about the new spending proposals from Congress, federal legislation on abortion, immigration and other issues of interest to First Congressional District GOP primary voters.

All five of the invited GOP candidates have confirmed their attendance:

  • Rep. Tim Baxter
  • Gail Huff Brown
  • Karoline Leavitt
  • Matt Mowers
  • Russell Prescott

The 90-minute debate will be moderated by New Hampshire Journal Managing Editor Michael Graham. He will be joined in the questioning by former broadcast journalist and current P.R. executive Tiffany Eddy.

“Republican primary voters have a very important decision to make, in a district that is considered one of the most competitive in the country,” said Graham. “Our goal is to let those voters see the candidates in action, to better understand their positions and determine which one they want carrying their party’s banner in November.”
