A relatively quiet week at the State House leading up to next week’s budget deadline. House committees will give their final recommendations to approximately 60 Senate bills that head to the floor next week, while the Senate Finance Committee continues its work on the two-year state budget.

Tuesday, May 27

House Education Policy Committee- Legislative Office Building- 9:30 a.m.

House Education Policy takes up four remaining Senate bills and holds public hearings on amendments to each of them.

House Election Law Committee- Legislative Office Building- 10:00 a.m.

The House Election Law Committee finishes its work with several bills addressing absentee ballots and moving the state primary to June.

House Commerce Committee- Legislative Office Building- 10:00 a.m.

The House Commerce Committee works up SB 297 on municipal risk pools and SB 295 on ambulance reimbursement rates. House and Senate leaders reached an agreement on ambulances last week.

House Commerce Committee- Legislative Office Building- 1:30 p.m.

The House Commerce Committee votes on recommendations on these and 15 other Senate bills, including liquor policy, food delivery services, and birth records.

Senate Finance Committee- State House- 1:30 pm

The Senate Finance Committee meets every day this week as it moves through hundreds of requests from state agencies to increase funding over the levels approved in the House budget plan. Issues left include state support for the University System of New Hampshire and boosting retirement benefits for Group II police and firefighters who saw their benefits reduced as part of the 2011 New Hampshire Retirement System reforms.

Wednesday, May 28

House Finance Committee- Legislative Office Building- 10:00 a.m.

House Finance makes final recommendations on Senate bills that have already received approval from the House once. The big item in SB 295, expanding Education Freedom Accounts to all New Hampshire families. House and Senate leaders have agreed on the current version of the bill, but the committee may consider amending the package.

Senate Finance expects to make any final changes to the state budget on Monday, formally adopting the plan on Tuesday morning. The budget will head to the full Senate next Thursday.
