A new poll from the St Anselm College Survey Center shows that, despite the widely-held perception that she won Tuesday night’s debate, Vice President Kamala Harris’ lead over Donald Trump in New Hampshire ticked up just a single point.

Harris now leads Trump by 8 points (51-43 percent), slightly up from her 7-point lead in August.

A whopping 86 percent of respondents said they watched the debate, and 58 percent of them said they think Harris won. Just 22 percent said Trump was the winner.

Among voters who saw the debate, Harris leads by 13 points (54-41 percent).

“Despite high voter engagement with the debate, candidate favorability remains stable. Harris holds a 51-48 percent favorability, unchanged from August, but the polarized environment offers little room for growth,” said Neil Levesque, executive director of the NH Institute of Politics.

“Trump has slightly improved his favorability to 43-57 percent, up from 42-58 percent. He maintains strong leads on key issues like the economy and inflation (66-26 percent) and border security (94-3 percent). Trump still has opportunities to gain ground by focusing on these concerns.”

More good news for New Hampshire Democrats: If the election for Congress were held today, voters would pick a Democratic candidate over a Republican 49-44 percent. This is the biggest margin for Democrats in the “generic ballot” question this year.

The Survey Center polled 2241 New Hampshire likely voters between September 11th and 12th, 2024, The survey has an overall margin of sampling error of +/- 2.1 percent with a confidence interval of 95 percent.
