Recently, US News and World Reports ranked New Hampshire as the #1 state for economic opportunity and the #2 best state overall in the nation. That recognition adds to the Granite State’s accolades, consistently placing it among the top states for low unemployment, business friendliness, and high quality of life.
Under Gov. Chris Sununu’s leadership, New Hampshire’s strengths, particularly for businesses and individuals seeking relief from burdensome taxes and regulations, have been strongly advocated. His efforts have attracted many to the state, providing a reassuring direction for economic growth.
While Nouria is headquartered in Worcester, Mass., and hasn’t relocated at the governor’s encouragement, continued growth in New Hampshire is a promising opportunity for our company. Nouria has operated convenience stores and gas stations across the Granite State for decades and we employ approximately 350 New Hampshire residents. In recent years, our focus has been investment in new locations in the Granite State. This expansion is a testament to our positive experience with the New Hampshire Advantage—a favorable business environment we greatly appreciate.
New Hampshire has struck a commendable balance between ensuring business safety and employee protection without overburdening small businesses with excessive regulations. That balance provides a secure and stable business environment, further highlighted by the state’s high rankings in public safety, equality, and low pollution.
Businesses thrive when they can swiftly respond to consumer demand, and New Hampshire’s environment supports private enterprise and the free market more effectively than many other states. One area where Nouria has experienced notable growth is our electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. For instance, during the April eclipse, tourists in the North Country faced long waits to recharge their EVs due to a limited number of charging stations. The situation arose because the market had not previously demanded more stations in that area. However, the demand is now clearly increasing, and the market is responding accordingly. We have made it a priority to expand our EV charging capacity in response to this growing need. In New Hampshire, consumers, not government mandates, drive market responses.
At Nouria, we aim to be good neighbors and a positive force in the communities we serve. Our long-standing commitment to New Hampshire has been rewarding, and we encourage other businesses looking to expand into a business-friendly environment to consider this great state. Similarly, states looking to attract new businesses can learn from New Hampshire’s example.
