The billionaire governor of the “Vote Early and Often!” State is bringing his progressive politics to “Live Free or Die” New Hampshire this weekend, at the invitation of Granite State Democrats.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, 60, is heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune and the second-richest politician in America, according to The Wall Street Journal. (Trump is first.) He will take center stage Sunday in Manchester at the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s annual McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club fundraising dinner. He will reportedly speak about Trump’s authoritarianism.

VIP tickets are on sale for $2,500 each.

Pritzker, who has not announced whether he’ll seek a third term as governor, is widely believed to be considering a White House run in 2028.

New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley has expressed excitement over Pritzker’s upcoming visit. “New Hampshire will give JB a great Granite State welcome with the largest gathering of Democrats since the 2/20 FITN Primary on Sunday in Manchester.”

“Gov. Pritzker’s leadership proves why Democrats should lead at every level—because when Democrats govern, they deliver,” added the New Hampshire Democratic Party in a statement.

But it’s Pritzker’s style of governance, which is far to the left of New Hampshire’s, that has political observers raising an eyebrow.

“Pritzker is not the flinty pragmatic New Hampshire sort of politician,” former Illinois Republican National Committeeman Richard Porter told NHJournal. “He’s a rich radical, a billionaire seeking affirmation and meaning by embracing radicals and their ideas that have no consequences for himself.”

For example, New Hampshire is famous for having no state income or sales tax — the “New Hampshire Advantage” that local Democrats have pledged to protect.

Illinois, on the other hand, was just ranked as the state with the highest effective state and local tax rate in the country.

In fact, as Illinois Republicans point out, Pritzker just signed a record-setting budget — $53 billion — that included $1 billion in tax hikes.

Not that he likes paying taxes himself.

During his first run for governor in 2018, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on a scheme by Pritzker to drastically lower the property taxes he owed on his second mansion.

“According to a report by Cook County Inspector General Patrick Blanchard, the Pritzkers had five toilets removed from the second house so that it would be classified as ‘uninhabitable’ in a property tax appeal filed by the Pritzkers. The move reportedly “lowered the 6,378-square-foot mansion’s assessed value from $6.3 million to about $1.1 million.”

After the story broke, Pritzker agreed to pay back taxes on the property.

Pritzker is also on the far left on issues of gender and biology.

On Thursday, the University of New Hampshire released a poll showing Granite Staters oppose sex-change procedures, including puberty blockers for minor children,

But under Pritzker, Illinois has become a self-described “haven for gender-affirming care,” including for children.

And while polls show Granite Staters overwhelmingly support keeping biological males out of female sports, the Pritzker administration and the state of Illinois mandate that local schools must allow males who identify as female to compete against girls and use girls’ facilities like bathrooms and locker rooms.

Pritzker has also been aggressive in opposing increased enforcement of immigration laws.

In 2017, Illinois launched its pro-illegal immigration TRUST Act. Since taking office, Pritzker has doubled down on the policy. In 2021, Pritzker signed into law the state’s Way Forward Act, which orders local jurisdictions to cease any partnerships with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Illinois became “the most welcoming state in the nation,” Pritzker said at the time.

And on Wednesday, Pritzker announced his state will be boycotting work with El Salvador in response to the Central American nation’s decision to detain one of its own citizens, Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Garcia, who was in the U.S. illegally and is an alleged wife beater and gang member, was deported by the Trump administration.

“The state of Illinois will stand up for the rule of law and do everything in our power to stop the Trump administration from ripping apart our most basic rights,” Pritzker said in a statement.

“It’s truly fitting for the New Hampshire Democrats to bring Gov. Pritzker to the Granite State,” said New Hampshire GOP chair Jim MacEachern. “Both he and Chris Pappas want to place a tax on everything that moves. Both want to let violent criminals back on the streets, and both are pushing to appease the far left of their party.”

Pritzker is expected to be one of many 2028 hopefuls to find a reason to appear in the Granite State in the near future, though it’s no guarantee of success.

The last presidential hopeful to headline the Democrats’ annual fundraising dinner as keynote speaker was Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2019.

She finished fourth in the 2020 First in the Nation presidential primary.
