Last November, the voters sent a strong message at the polls. The American people were tired of being talked down to, and tired of being force-fed a radical leftwing agenda that has led to nothing but division and anger. President Trump led the charge, and voters found like-minded leaders in our new Republican Governor’s message and in our strong, new Republican majorities in the New Hampshire State Senate and House.

A big part of last year’s Republican wave was a rejection of the far-left push on gender issues. The left’s backward agenda ranged from the comical — such as changing the word “mom” to “birthing person” — to the downright dangerous, like laws that would allow fully-grown biological men into sensitive areas like the bathrooms and locker rooms of very young girls.

Recent polling has shown that more than three out of four Americans oppose these policies, but liberal politicians still push them.

Unfortunately, it seems like New Hampshire Democrats have either forgotten the voter’s message last fall or are deliberately sticking their heads in the sand to ignore it.

This year, New Hampshire Republicans have been proud to introduce a number of bills designed to clarify and strengthen our state’s protections for young women. SB 268, SB 38, SB 211 and HB 148 all protect the rights of young women to be free of the anxiety and safety concerns of having biological males in school women’s athletics and sensitive areas such as bathrooms and locker rooms.

SB 211, for example, is a bill to strengthen protections for women’s sports. As we’ve seen both in our state and throughout the country, when biological males get involved in women’s school athletics, they put safety and fairness at risk. There is a vast strength and size difference between the average biological male and biological female. This gives the biological males an enormous physical advantage. Smaller female athletes’ physical safety is placed at risk and it creates the potential to have biological males unfairly taking college scholarship opportunities from hard-working female athletes just to satisfy the politically correct leftwing activist class.

HB 148, similarly allows for common-sense classifications of individuals based on biological genders in certain facilities such as lavatories, locker rooms and prisons. Once again, this is about safety and protecting the rights of young women to be free of biological males in sensitive areas.

The public hearings on these bills were very telling about how far out of touch with reality the opponents are. When asked, opponents of these bills cannot even define identities, genders or sexes.

Their agenda is not pro-equality. It is anti-women.

Those politicians who continue to ignore the will of their constituents are doing a disservice to our state and to our young women who simply want to know that their leaders have their backs. These bills will bring back a degree of stability to ensure that our most vulnerable women are afforded the safety and fairness that we all deserve.

It is far past time that our political leaders stand up to the small but vocal minority driving this radical anti-women agenda. We are proud to be doing the will of the people who elected us – you spoke, and we listened. We wish we could say the same for our friends on the other side of the political aisle.
