So who are Granite State Democrats celebrating this Christmas season? Could it be… Satan?
Technically the ghoulish, goat-headed statute outside the state house is the pagan deity Baphomet, but given that it’s sponsored by The Satanic Temple (TST), that’s close enough for most people.
How do we know the statue came from the Satanic Temple? Because Democratic state rep. Ellen Read of Newmarket said so. In fact, Read told the press she came up with the idea for the TST to stand their pagan statue next to the traditional Nativity scene to send a message.
“Read also said she is a member of TST but has not participated in any of its meetings or events,” Fox News reported.
So an elected New Hampshire Democrat who’s a member of The Satanic Temple and is uncomfortable with Christmas displays solely dedicated to Christ? What could possibly go wrong?
Around the same time the pagan display was making headlines in New Hampshire, the Daniel Penny trial was big news in New York. The Marine veteran was acquitted of all charges in the death of a violent, repeat offender who was menacing a subway car full of people.
After the jury issued its verdict, New Hampshire Rep. Alissandra Murray issued one, too:
“There is very little justice in this country,” the Manchester Democrat posted.
How many Americans agree with Democrats like Murray that not putting Penny in prison was a failure of justice? According to Morning Consult polling, fewer than 30 percent.
The average American sees a crazy guy threatening innocent women and kids on a subway car vs. a military veteran who tries to restrain him, and — as in the case of Baby Jesus vs. Baphomet — the good guy is easy to spot.
Just like when a healthcare executive walking down the sidewalk is gunned down by an armed whackjob making a political statement. How did the wealthy, entitled punk who killed a father of two turn into a social media celebrity? It’s not MAGA voters who made this murderer a progressive pin-up boy.
During the presidential race, political consultants offered what appeared to be obvious advice to Vice President Kamala Harris: If someone asks if you want to spend tax dollars on sex change operations for criminal illegal immigrants in prison, say “No.”
Democrats might want to take the same advice on questions about murdering business executives (it’s bad), violent criminals who threaten subway passengers (“Not great, Bob”) and protesting Nativity scenes with pagan statues (a jerk move, separate from the free speech issue).
Add in Joe Biden’s outrageous pardons for corrupt judges, embezzling city officials and murderous spouses — not to mention the shameful pardon of his own tax-dodging son — and what’s the upside to being a Democrat?
The honest and accurate answer is “Hating Trump.”
If the space drones suddenly teleported Trump to the mother ship and whisked him away to Alpha Centauri, Democrats would be utterly devoid of all-purpose. It’s this purposelessness, this lack of grounding in what progressives like to call the “lived experience” of the average American, that’s turned them into such fringe political operators.
Hating Trump is enough to win in Massachusetts and California, but he still won a 312-226 victory by carrying every swing state. After the 2030 Census accounts for voters fleeing blue states for red ones, the shift of Electoral College votes means the next Republican running for president could lose Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Nevada but still win an Electoral College victory. That’s how many voters are moving to Florida, Texas and the Carolinas. But have Democrats asked themselves why?
What’s the difference between California and Texas? The number of people who want pagan statues at Christmas is far higher in the former than the latter. Not many people in Texas swoon over murderers, either.
Andrew Breitbart famously said that politics is downstream of culture. To many typical Americans, the culture embraced by many Democrats looks — to borrow a phrase from Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) — “weird.”
Just this week, NHJournal reported on the decision of the Democrat-run city of Concord to commemorate what anti-Israel Arabs call “Nakba Day.” It’s a day to declare the founding of Israel a “disaster” and call for the Jewish State’s destruction.
Why would Concord have this on their city calendar? Maybe the same reason progressive protesters have appeared on every college campus in the state, chanting “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” That is a call for Israel’s destruction, too.
None of this is to excuse Donald Trump or his supporters for their many sins. Republicans have plenty of unpopular positions and are plagued by their own extremism.
But the Democratic Party’s problem is bigger, because what an average American would see as “extremism” is now “Standing Operating Politics” for most elected Democrats. Is Joe Biden a “moderate?” The guy who just set a record for commuting criminals’ sentences? Who set another record for allowing immigrants, legal and illegal, to flood into the U.S.?
From pagans at the state house to the non-compos-mentis Pardoner-in-Chief in the White House, there are not many reasons for Democrats to cheer this Christmas season.
With or without the goat head.
