As the impact of the Epstein scandal spreads across New Hampshire politics, Democratic congressional candidate Christian Urrutia is demanding Stefany Shaheen answer the classic political question:
What did she know, and when did she know it?
The latest document dump of Epstein files revealed that New Hampshire inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen had a far more extensive relationship with the notorious sex offender than he previously admitted.
Kamen is also Shaheen’s boss. He is the founder of the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI), where she has worked since 2018 and is currently listed as the nonprofit’s chief strategy officer.
A search of Kamen’s name in the federal government’s Epstein database yields 719 results, including email exchanges in which he orchestrated visits to Epstein’s properties in New York, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Little St. James, the Caribbean island that was ground zero for his underage sex crimes.
According to emails from his assistant, Kamen spent the night of April 13, 2013, on the island. Days earlier, Kamen offered to foot the bill for flying “the girls” from New York to Palm Beach before arriving on the island.
“Thank you for hosting an incredible visit to a magical place,” Kamen wrote days later, on April 20, 2013. “It really is almost unbelievable.”
What is unbelievable to Urrutia is that Shaheen had such a long and important relationship with Kamen but has said so little about the Epstein connection.
In a statement headlined “Stefany Shaheen Must Come Clean,” Urrutia said, “In light of repeated revelations that Kamen maintained extensive ties to Jeffrey Epstein and repeatedly misrepresented the nature of that relationship, Stefany Shaheen now needs to explain with clarity to the voters of New Hampshire what role she played in deceiving them and why she won’t condemn Kamen.”
Specifically, the Urrutia campaign called on Shaheen to address (1) what role she had in crafting or advising Kamen on his misleading statements about Epstein, and (2) why she had not spoken out or severed ties with a man closely associated with Epstein after months of successive disclosures. Shaheen has refused to condemn Dean Kamen’s misleading statements or association with Jeffrey Epstein, merely stating that ARMI’s board of directors “needs to address this matter independently.”
Shaheen’s relationship with Dean Kamen has been lucrative. Kamen’s ARMI has paid her more than $900,000 since being hired in 2018.
Urrutia notes that Shaheen has not released a single statement about Kamen on her campaign website and has merely called on ARMI to address the matter “independently.”
Shaheen’s mother, U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a former chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has boasted of her track record of bringing millions of dollars to the organization. That includes an initial $80 million from the Department of Defense in 2017 and a $44 million grant from the Economic Development Administration in 2022.
Friday’s document dump from the Justice Department countered earlier claims made by Kamen that his relationship with Epstein was “limited,” including after a photo of him alongside Epstein and U.K. billionaire Richard Branson was released last year.
ARMI told NHPR it is investigating the details of Kamen’s relationship with Epstein, while Kamen’s FIRST Robotics nonprofit organization has removed him from the board while an outside law firm conducts a review.
Shaheen’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
