New Hampshire’s first new member of Congress since 2018, Rep. Maggie Goodlander, will be serving on the House Armed Services and Small Business Committees, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) announced Tuesday.

Goodlander, who is married to President Joe Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and a veteran of the Navy Reserve, released a statement pledging her support for members of the U.S. military.

“New Hampshire is home to more than 1,200 active-duty service members and more than 5,680 National Guard and reserve members. The brave men and women who serve in our nation’s armed forces represent the best of America. Bringing their voices to Congress is a sacred duty,” said Representative Goodlander. “Our national defense is not a Republican or a Democratic issue; it is an American issue, and I look forward to working across the aisle with my colleagues on the Armed Services Committee to support our nation’s armed forces, strengthen our national defense and deliver for our American military personnel, at home and abroad.”

New Hampshire only has a few U.S. military installations, among them the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (technically located in Kittery, Maine) and the New Boston Space Force Station.

Goodlander also addressed her service on the Small Business Committee.

“New Hampshire has more than 136,500 small businesses and more than 305,700 small business employees. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and make up nearly 99% of all businesses in New Hampshire. I’m ready to give the businesses that keep our state moving a seat at the table as a member of the Small Business Committee. I look forward to working with anyone – Republican or Democrat – who will work with me to build a more resilient, business-friendly future where everyone can thrive,” Goodlander said.
