For an alternate viewpoint, see “Counterpoint: There’s an Equality Issue in Women’s Sports — and It’s Not About Transgender Women.”
On average, adult men are physically stronger, more powerful, faster and have higher endurance than adult women. This is not a theory; it is an indisputable scientific fact.
Although anyone with a functional brain intuitively understands that men and women are fundamentally different when it comes to athletic prowess and, therefore, should not compete against each other, the woke geniuses behind the Paris Olympics think otherwise.
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games, for the first time, may have allowed biological males to compete against females. Even worse, the organizers thought letting two biological males participate in the women’s boxing tournament would be a good idea.
Unsurprisingly, both boxers coasted to wins. In one of the bouts, Italian boxer Angela Carini quit after 46 seconds following two solid punches to her face from Imane Khelif of Algeria. Lin yu-Ting, representing Taiwan, also dominated opponents in Paris.
It should be noted that the International Boxing Association disqualified Khelif and Ting in 2023 after a “test conclusively indicated that both athletes did not meet the required necessary eligibility criteria and were found to have competitive advantages over other female competitors.”
Interestingly, the International Olympic Committee, which has a long history of corruption and malfeasance, remains wedded to its decision to allow Khelif and Ting to compete against women. According to the IOC, “the gender and age of the athletes are based on their passport.”
The international outcry over the decision to let these athletes compete against females at the Olympic level has put the entire notion of men participating in women’s sports under a microscope.
The idea of biological males being allowed to compete against women in the sporting arena is a new phenomenon that would have been considered inconceivable just a few years ago.
This all changed when Lia Thomas, a biological male, was deemed eligible to compete against women. Thomas, who went through puberty as a male, was a men’s swimming team member at the University of Pennsylvania for three years.
While participating in the men’s swimming squad, Thomas was mediocre, typically finishing most races in the middle of the pack. However, as soon as Thomas began swimming in the female division, she immediately began to dominate. In fact, Thomas became a national champion the year she switched divisions.
The controversy over Thomas competing on the women’s team sparked a national discourse over whether biological males should be allowed to participate against women. Many prominent female athletes were outraged and vehemently opposed the NCAA’s decision to allow Thomas to compete against women. On the other hand, many progressive groups rushed to her defense.
The vast majority of Americans think biological men should not be allowed to compete against women. According to a recent Gallup poll, 69 percent of Americans think athletes should be allowed to play only on sports teams that match their birth gender.
By allowing these athletes to compete against females, the IOC is sending a terrible message to the world. Essentially, the IOC and several other athletic governing bodies have kowtowed to the small fraction of activists who seek to implement their warped worldview upon the rest of us.
While many may think this is not a big deal or it is being blown out of proportion, I could not disagree more. This is about defending principles. It is wrong for men to compete against women. It is also about defending common sense. Everyone knows that men, in general, have an inherent physical advantage over women. This has been true since time immemorial. And it will remain so.
In the United States, this issue should be of particular concern. As of Aug. 1, the administration’s changes to Title XI rules officially went into effect. According to the new regulations, “schools would not be permitted to adopt or apply a one-size-fits-all policy that categorically bans transgender students from participating on teams consistent with their gender identity.”
In other words, from now on, any biological male can participate against women as long as they identify as a female. That is absurd, arbitrary and represents a direct threat to the future of women’s athletics. Ironically, Title XI was created to protect women’s sports. However, under the new rules, it will likely result in the demise of numerous female athletes.
