Republican gubernatorial candidate Kevin Smith announced that his campaign has hired a pair of national-level consultants to conduct political polling and paid media.

According to a statement from the Smith campaign, Gene Ulm of well-known Republican polling firm Public Opinion Strategies, will direct the campaign’s political surveys and provide electoral analysis.

Additionally, Mark Dion of Revolution Agency, will create the campaign’s ads and paid media messaging.

The Profile Strategy Group, a New Hampshire-based firm, was retained as General Consultants by Smith earlier in the campaign.

Campaign advisor Jamie Burnett said, “We are building an experienced and dynamic team that will help Kevin Smith run successfully in this election. Gene Ulm and Mark Dion are both excellent at what they do, and we’re fortunate to have such talented political veterans a part of our campaign.”

Ulm’s past client list includes Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas and ther Republican Governors Association in several New England races, including Maine’s Paul LePage. Public Opinion Strategies has also polled for Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia, Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts, and former New Hampshire Senator John E. Sununu.

Dion is a NH native and founding partner in Revolution Agency; he has advised Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

Smith is the first gubernatorial candidate on the Republican side to roll out a full-fledged consulting team; he also announced the hire of veteran Granite State operative Tom DeRosa as a campaign staff member in the early stages of the race.
